Mapping Our Legacy, Bridging Our Future
Bristol’s Black communities have built a powerful legacy — spaces of culture, creativity, and resilience that have shaped the city for generations. Yet, many of our institutions, community hubs, and cultural assets remain disconnected, underfunded, or at risk of being lost. Black Bristol Commons is a SKARUB-led initiative dedicated to mapping, protecting, and strengthening Bristol’s Black institutions and community value assets — from historic buildings and cultural spaces to grassroots organisations and creative hubs.
Our mission is to create a shared resource that not only documents these vital spaces but also bridges unity between them, ensuring they thrive for future generations.
Through research, collaboration, and community-led mapping, we are building a living archive of Black Bristol, fostering deeper connections between organizations, and advocating for collective ownership, sustainability, and self-determination.
By uniting our community’s assets, we strengthen our cultural and economic power—ensuring our spaces don’t just survive but flourish.
